Goblins & Kobolds
Before losing their deity’s favor the Bugbears of this world along with the Orcs and other Savage Races ruled over their Goblin slaves and food. Now they look at their forefathers as fools for gleefully serving as mercenaries in the Great Human Wars for the artifacts of Those Who Ruined, which they now have such a distaste for due to the decimated state it has left them in.
Today most of the remaining Bugbears reside in co-settlements with the Halfings or travel with them in their nomadic caravans of ships or wagons, a union birthed of desperation from both sides. However, the Bugbears have grown to think of these small kindhearted (and admittedly “fumzies”) smallfolk as their “lizzile friezes”. Surprisingly the Halflings and Bugbears have found they baalnce each other quite well, with the Halfings serving as the craftsmen, farmers (if applicable), planners, and booze makers of their communities, while the Bugbears have a much easier (or at least “funzers”) lifestyle as the hunters, occasional heavy lifters and builders, guards, and front-line fighters for their shared communities or caravans.
Today a tribe of Bugbears existing on it’s own is almost unheard of, for shortly after the Last Great Human War when the Goblins realized there were now far too few Bugbears to control them they quickly turned their blades on their former masters in a massive hunt of revenge-fueled massacre. However, now they are the only Savage Race to be regrowing in numbers at an exponential rate.
Is the Bugbears apparent slow recovery due in part to the Halfimgs? Almost certainly. Although, without the support of their patron deity Hruggek they are not sure what direction to turn for Hruggek has withdrawn the power he had granted to his recently abandoned Adepts on this world. Due in part to this the Bugbears of this planet have become more and more willing to listen to the preaching (more like nagging, really) of their small companions to become more civilized, and some are even changing their loyalties from their traditional tribal dominant male(s) to the Halfing elders of their communities. This shift of allegiance is the only issue which still causes regular friction or even full-out confrontations between Bugbears and Halfings in a community, and is the reason for most of the current independent Bugbear tribes out in the wilderness.
